Different only in the fact that I’ve never shot outdoor nude maternity before. The same in that its how I love to shoot…no flash or fancy photoshop tricks. Just good ole fashioned sun and shadows. I don’t often say this but I’m a big fan of these images.
there must be something in the air these days that is making people awesome. i’ve been shooting with a slew of amazing clients that have grand ideas for photo shoots and get totally involved in the whole shoot. As a husband I’m not fully understanding why you need to buy new clothes for a photo […]
I love it when clients say ‘we want to do something different’. It leaves the door open to so many possibilities. Different from what? The more everything tries to be different the more it all ends up being the same. So I try to grab on the the obvious things that are different. Meg + […]
This shoot was supposed to take place in a nice quite area of a park but Ewelina called and said she was bringing a few outfits and a couple of heart shaped balloons. Its a lot of fun when couples are totally into the shoot and want to participate on the ideas and locations. Ewelina […]
Allie + Ryan are not planning a wedding. Nor are they engaged. They’re just two (self proclaimed) cheesy love birds who wanted to have some photos together. We met up in the middle of a field and just watching them walk toward us as we met, Jessica and I could tell they were just simply […]
Some things are worth waiting for. This shoot with Fallon was one of them. After many, many months of planning, plotting, rearranging and re-planning we finally hit the studio for a boudoir shoot. The plan: a fur coat shoot. Silver fox fur to be exact. Makeup Artist: Vicky Mina (thanks Vicky!) Hair: Cara MacInnis (thanks […]
In it’s infancy, this shoot was supposed to take place on a football field somewhere in Halifax. Then Nalani mangled her knee in one of the many contact sports she plays, had surgery and rested for a few weeks. We met up a few months later to plan a portrait shoot and got to talking […]
I remember sitting in Jason Groupp’s studio in New York City thinking ‘Hell No, I’m not getting into video. I know nothing about it and the learning curve is too steep and expensive.’ Well, I’m a liar. I love it and I just found out the other day that Jessica (my lovely assistant) does too. So […]
I feel like a farmer at this time of year. An image farmer. May-October is the time when I kiss Marcia and Lola goodbye and work like a dog for 6 months. For months I’ve been plotting, sketching, thinking and collaborating and on Saturday it was finally time to ‘nut up or shut up’. It’s […]
If there’s any one thing that keeps me awake at nite its the technical difficulties of a website and blog. If you don’t have a site…you don’t have a business. So I apologize for the down time and confusion as we make a few changes to the website and blog. There promises to be lots […]
So we packed up for PEI in 2 cars, both stacked to the rafters with gear. Light stands, cameras, lenses, smoke machines, strobes, hot lights, appleboxes (custom made if you’re looking to buy some by the way) and more light modifiers than you can shake a stick at. I also had a mind full of […]
I knew the second that I met Julia at the Brides 2010 show in Halifax that we would end up shooting something fun together that was wedding related. Despite what you may have read, I don’t really think we had any real intention of sitting her in a pile of cow poo in her wedding […]
Griffen is a tattoo artist. Eric plays guitar. That was all I knew when I found out Griffen wanted to do a Trash the Dress shoot with us in Summerside, Prince Edward Island on Sunday. She had a black wedding dress she would wear for one shoot and a white wedding dress, the one she […]
As I was leaving Felicity Bridal the other day to pick up a few dresses for our Trash the Dress PEI project, Mickey came running out. “I have an idea for a wedding dress shot,” she said. “Let’s dress up Christina and take her picture putting money in a meter.” Done. Concept + Art Direction:Mickey […]
Crazy ideas sometimes emerge as amazing projects. Trash the Dress PEI is one of those crazy ideas. We need to clear the air here first. I’ve been to a few wedding shows and Trash the Dress discussions usually start with a gasp and end with a No Way. Perhaps this is because I show people […]
I love these 10frames10minutes sessions. very obscure locations and we can do anything we want. i used a new light modifier for the first time with this shot and I wanted to kick myself for never using it before. of course it doesn’t hurt that Nicole+Serge can more than hold their own in front of […]
I know the walk by now. It comes from out of nowhere and emerges suddenly through a stairway or an elevator. Its a slow, steady, forward saunter with a hint of authoritative strut. This awkward performance usually ends with the same question every single time. “What Are You Doing Up Here?” I’m taking pictures for […]
Once again, five of Halifax’s finest wedding photographers (and me) hit the studio last nite to come up with ideas and then fight over who’s going to get to pop the flash first. If this was a typical classroom setting, the six of us would have all been sitting in the front row with our […]
thanks for the email everyone. you wanted to see the actual shots on the blog so here’s one.
so before you go jumping ahead to the video there’s something I need to tell you…I embed white text and say things like wedding photographer in Halifax. this shoot was my idea. Jennifer did not call me up and say, ‘Hey Liam, let’s do a shoot w my cakes and can you throw in a […]
