Very Different Wedding Photography

I sometimes post so much and sometimes post so little. We try so many absurd ideas that some of them will never see the light of day…and then I thought some of them might make for some good b-side photography. Like Lost Dogs, sometimes the stuff that never makes it can be some of your favourites.
This was just a quick frame I grabbed as Steph adjusted some light and ran back to get out of the frame. I know it’s probably not the shot Angie and Ryan will hang in their condo in Hong Kong…but it’s kind of fun. A behind the scenes shot that shows you how Steph can hustle when time is ticking.
Stay tuned for more b-sides.

I’ve shot weddings in hurricanes and I’ve shot weddings on interesting dates like 10.10.10. I’ve shot weddings in the snow and I’ve shot em in the rain but I’ve NEVER shot a wedding on a day the world was supposed to end…until last Saturday.
Angie + Ryan live in Hong Kong so I hadn’t had the opportunity to meet them prior to their wedding day and I also had no idea how to ask them if we could do an ‘end of the world shot’ at some point in the day. “Hi, I’m your wedding photographer, nice to meet you. Hey, how do you feel about 175 of your wedding guests playing dead during your reception?” Thats pretty much how it went.
Needless to say, and though it has been said by many a wedding photographer, I have the best clients in the world. At then end of the dinner, right on cue, 175 wedding participants flopped down on their tables and chairs and played dead while Steph and I shot like mad for about 7 seconds. 4 days later we had Angie + Ryan crammed in tiny little caves on the slippery edge of a rocky cliffs for a Fearless Bridal shoot.
I love wedding season. I love it.

This was supposed to be a sunset shoot lit with the warm setting sun over Halifax harbour. Needless to say we went with plan B when the cloud rolled in in the late afternoon and the cold winds picked up, well, you know, typical Halifax spring weather.
Dawn + Jon are going to have an incredible wedding w 200 people at Saint Mary’s Boat Club but we’re already looking forward to what might happen at midnight when the Boat Club shuts down. Banjos, guitars and old school patio lanterns!

Thanks for standing around in the dark and cold guys!

When we met Jana + Jeremy about their wedding a few months ago Jeremy told us he was a bit of a pyro and could get access to fireworks. I know there are boxes and boxes of fireworks set aside for the wedding so we had to do some testing shooting with them.

Hoops (as we now affectionately call her) said she wanted to do a boudoir shoot or something like it. We had some rooftop access over looking all of Halifax and the rain held off just long enough to get outside and shoot for 10 minutes.
